Buntonia klologoensis was named by Carbonnel and Johnson (1989). Its type specimen is FSL 136406, a valve (right valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Klologo well, 92-97 m depth, which is in a Ypresian carbonate limestone in Togo.
