Taxonomy
Terebratula imbricata was named by Sowerby (1839).

It was recombined as Spirigerina imbricata by Lindström (1861); it was recombined as Atrypa imbricata by Davidson (1867); it was recombined as Plectatrypa imbricata by Bassett and Cocks (1974), Mitchell (1977), Temple (1987), Jin and Chatterton (1997); it was recombined as Plectatrypa (Plectatrypa) imbricata by Williams et al. (2002).
