Australiceras (Proaustraliceras) elegans was named by Stenshin et al. (2014). Its type specimen is UKM no. 67840 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is level A 11.2, Ulyanovsk, Yunost Park, which is in an Aptian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
