Valvata nevadensis was named by Taylor and Smith (1981) [taxonomic authority is Taylor, 1981]. Its type specimen is UMMZ 250104 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mopung Hills locality C, which is in a Pliocene lacustrine limestone in the Truckee Formation of Nevada.
