Muellerizomus was named by De Francesco Magnussen and Müller (2022). Its type is Muellerizomus palicaudatus.

It was assigned to Hubbardiinae by De Francesco Magnussen and Müller (2022); and to Hubbardiidae by Prendini (2025).
