Anisacodon montanus was named by Marsh (1875) [supposed "type" of brontothere genus].
It was recombined as Diconodon montanus by Marsh (1876); it was recombined as Titanotherium montanum by Osborn (1896); it was recombined as Symborodon montanus by Hay (1902), Osborn (1902); it was recombined as Menodus montanus by Osborn (1929); it was considered a nomen dubium by Mader (1989), Mader (1998).
