Cumnoria was named by Seeley (1888).
It was synonymized subjectively with Iguanodon by Lydekker (1888); it was synonymized subjectively with Camptosaurus by Zittel (1890), Woodward and Sherborn (1890), Nopcsa (1901), Huene (1909), Gilmore (1909), von Zittel (1911), Romer (1956), Tatarinov (1964), Kuhn (1964), Romer (1966), Norman (2004) and Pereda Suberbiola et al. (2006).
It was assigned to Ornithopoda by Sauvage (1914); to Iguanodontidae by Swinton (1970) and Galton (1974); to Camptosauridae by Winkler (1893), Naish and Martill (2007), Ruiz-Omeñaca et al. (2007) and Ruiz-Omeñaca et al. (2008); and to Styracosterna by McDonald et al. (2010) and Párraga and Prieto-Márquez (2019).
