Hoplitosaurus marshi
Taxonomy
Stegosaurus marshi was named by Lucas (1901). Its type specimen is USNM 4752 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Calico Canyon (USNM), which is in a Barremian terrestrial horizon in the Lakota Formation of South Dakota. It was considered monophyletic by Vickaryous et al. (2004).
It was recombined as Polacanthus marshi by Blows (1987), Pereda-Suberbiola (1994), Blows (1996), Pereda Suberbiola and Barrett (1999), Ruiz-Omeñaca and Canudo (2003); it was recombined as Hoplitosaurus marshi by Lucas (1902), Lull (1910), Gilmore (1914), Hennig (1915), Mook (1916), Lull (1921), Hay (1930), Stromer (1934), Kuhn (1964), Bodily (1970), Madsen and Miller (1979), Galton (1980), Galton (1983), Carpenter and Kirkland (1998), Pereda Suberbiola et al.
