Axinea idonea was named by Conrad (1865) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6706]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is ADa-2 Rep 2, which is in a Paleocene/Paleocene shallow subtidal sandstone in the Nanafalia Formation of Alabama.
It was recombined as Glycymeris idonea by Harris (1919) and Kosnik (2002).
