Taxonomy
Mesodesmatidae was named by Gray (1840) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5189]. It is extant. Its type is Mesodesma.

It was assigned to Mactracea by Glenn (1904), Vokes (1980), Saul (1989); and to Mactroidea by Nevesskaja (2009), Bouchet et al. (2010), Carter et al. (2011), Signorelli and Carter (2016), Signorelli (2019).
