Taxonomy

Ctenochelidae was named by Manning and Felder (1991). It is extant. Its type is Ctenocheles.

It was assigned to Thalassinoidea by Feldmann et al. (1995), Schweitzer-Hopkins and Feldmann (1997) and Schweitzer and Feldmann (1999); to Thalassinidea by Martin and Davis (2001); to Callianassoidea by Karasawa and Fudouji (2000), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2002), Todd and Collins (2005), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Hyzny and Dulai (2013); and to Axiidea by Schweitzer et al. (2023).

Synonyms

Gourretiidae was named by Sakai (1999). It is extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Gourretiinae by Franţescu (2014); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Ctenochelidae by Schweitzer et al. (2023).

It was assigned to Callianassoidea by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Ctenochelidae by Franţescu (2014).
Ischnodactylus texanus was named by Rathbun (1935). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 2 mi N of Denison, 1/2 mi E of Denton clay/Kde type locality..., which is in an Albian marine claystone in the Denton Formation of Texas.

It was recombined as Oncopareia texanus by Schweitzer et al. (2010); it was considered a nomen dubium by Tshudy et al. (2022).
Pseudogourretiinae was named by Sakai (2005). It is extant.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Ctenochelidae by Schweitzer et al. (2023).
Dawsoniinae was named by Sakai (2006). It is extant.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Ctenochelidae by Schweitzer et al. (2023).
Ctenocheloidae was named by Sakai (2011). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ctenochelidae by Schweitzer et al. (2023).
Tosacallianassidae was named by Sakai (2016). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ctenochelidae by Schweitzer et al. (2023).
