It was synonymized subjectively with Chonecetus by Peredo and Pyenson (2018).
It was assigned to Morawanocetinae by Barnes et al. (1995), Tsai and Ando (2015); and to Aetiocetidae by Uhen (2008), Fitzgerald (2010), Marx and Fordyce (2015), Marx et al. (2016), Fordyce and Marx (2016), Tsai and Kohno (2017), Berta (2017), Hernández Cisneros and Velez-Juarbe (2024).
