Taxonomy
Leptosuchus was named by Case (1922). Its type is Leptosuchus crosbiensis.
It was synonymized subjectively with Rutiodon by Gregory (1962), Kuhn (1964), Hunt and Lucas (1989).
It was assigned to Phytosauridae by Hay (1930); to Rutiodontinae by Long and Murry (1995); to Parasuchia by Irmis (2005); and to Leptosuchomorpha by Stocker (2010), Stocker and Butler (2013), Kammerer et al. (2016).
