Carcharodontosauridae was named by Stromer (1931). It is not extant. Its type is Carcharodontosaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Benson et al. (2010), de Azevedo et al. (2013).
It was synonymized subjectively with Megalosaurinidae by Steel (1970).
