Cairanoolithus dughii

Taxonomy
Cairanoolithus dughii was named by Vianey-Liaud et al. (1994). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is LCA1-A (lectotype), an egg, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Cairanne (LCA), which is in a Campanian channel marl in France. It is the type species of Cairanoolithus.

Galobart 2016Cairanoolithus egg diagnosed by the following combination of characters: outer surface mainly smooth or undulating; shell thickness ranging from 1.57 to 2.41 mm; partially fused slender columnar-shaped shell units (H/W ratio of 2.5:1); angusticanaliculate pore canals (25mm wide) with small rounded pore apertures (40 – 75 mm in diameter); large packed spherulites (80 – 160 mm in diameter, average of 120 mm).
