Dsungaripteroidea was named by Young (1964). It was considered monophyletic by Unwin (2003).

It was reranked as the unranked clade Dsungaripteroidea by Unwin and Lü (1997), Andres and Norell (2005).

It was assigned to Pterosauria by Young (1964); to Pterodactyloidea by Unwin and Lü (1997); to Lophocratia by Unwin (2003); and to Pterodactyloidea by Bakhurina (1993), Martill et al. (2000), Maisch et al. (2004), Andres and Norell (2005).

Synonyms

Germanodactylidae was named by Young (1964). It was considered paraphyletic by Maisch et al. (2004).

It was reranked as the unranked clade Germanodactylidae by Unwin and Lü (1997); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Dsungaripteroidea by Maisch et al. (2004).

It was assigned to Pterodactyloidea by Young (1964), Kuhn (1966); to Dsungaripteroidea by Unwin and Lü (1997); and to Dsungaripteroidea by Unwin and Heinrich (1999).
