Nothrotheriinae was named by Ameghino (1920). It is not extant. Its type is Nothrotherium.
It was assigned to Eutardigrada by Gaudin (1995); to Megatheriidae by Hay (1930), Villarroel (1998); to Megalonychidae by Muizon and McDonald (1995), McDonald and Muizon (2002); to Nothrotheriidae by Muizon et al. (2004); and to Nothrotheriidae by Varela et al. (2019).
