Note Ancienta is a mis-spelling of the problematica genus Ancientia. Both Sepkoski and many later authors (such as Robert Frey) spelled it incorrectly in published articles as Ancienta

Taxonomy
Ancientia was named by Ross (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Ashg-m.]. Its type is Ancientia ohioensis. It is the type genus of Ancientiidae.

It was assigned to Ancientiidae by Schallreuter (1981); to Problematica by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ichnofossils by Keulen and Rhebergen (2017).
