Loxonema bellatula was named by Hall (1861). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Elasmonema, Callonema.
It was recombined as Isonema bellatula by Meek and Worthen (1867), Meek and Worthen (1868), Hall and Whitfield (1875) and Hall (1876); it was recombined as Callonema bellatula by Hall (1879) and Kindle (1900); it was recombined as Elasmonema bellatulum by Fischer (1885), Knight (1941) and Fagerstrom (1961); it was recombined as Callonema bellatulum by Clarke (1908); it was recombined as Elasmonema bellatula by Pitcher (1939), Frýda and Bandel (1997) and Wagner (2023).
