Gyronema speciosum was named by Whiteaves (1892). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Gyronema speciosum by Whiteaves (1904), Whiteaves (1906), Parks (1913), Parks (1915), Blodgett and Johnson (1992), Blodgett and Johnson (1992) and Blodgett (1992); it was recombined as Oriostoma speciosum by Wagner (2023).
