Taxonomy
Protecovasaurus lucasi was named by Heckert (2004). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMMNH P-34196. Its type locality is NMMNH L-1312, Lower Kalgary, which is in a Norian fine channel fill siltstone/conglomerate in the Tecovas Formation of Texas.
