Loricella was named by Pilsbry (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R]. It is extant. Its type is Loricella angasi.
It was assigned to Schizochitonidae by Ladd (1966), Beesley (1998), Wells and Houston (2001); and to Neoloricata by Sepkoski (2002).
