Brandneria was named by Senowbari-Daryan et al. (1993). It is not extant. Its type is Brandneria dolomitica.
It was assigned to Porostromata by Senowbari-Daryan et al. (1993); and to Halimedaceae by Senowbari-Daryan and Zamparelli (2005).
