Ecculiomphalus was named by Portlock (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Cara-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Ecculiomphalus bucklandi.
It was corrected as Eccyliomphalus by M'Coy (1851), Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was reranked as Euomphalus (Ecculiomphalus) by Hall (1876).
It was assigned to Gastropoda by M'Coy (1851); to Euomphalus by Hall (1876); to Ecculiomphalinae by Wenz (1938); to Euomphaloidea by Knight et al.
