Ophileta was named by Vanuxem (1842) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l O Aren-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Ophileta complanata. It is the type genus of Ophiletidae.
It was reranked as Straparollus (Ophileta) by Winchell (1864).
It was assigned to Straparollus by Winchell (1864); to Ophiletinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Euomphalina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ophiletidae by Morris and Cleevely (1981), Wagner (1999), Bouchet et al. (2005).
