Plicaforacapsa was named by O'Dogherty et al. (2006) [Type species: Stylocapsa catenarum; A. Matsuoka, 1982b. Middle and Late Jurassic radiolarian biostratigraphy in the Sakawa and the Niyodo areas, Kochi Prefecture, southwest Japan. News of Osaka Micropaleontologists, special Volume, 5:
237-253.]. Its type is Stylocapsa catenarum.
