Phisonites was named by Shevyrev (1965). Its type is Phisonites triangulus.
It was assigned to Xenodiscinae by Spinosa et al. (1975); and to Xenodiscidae by Waterhouse (1987), Leonova (2002), Korn (2006), Korn and Hairapetian (2021).
