Akanthosuchus langstoni
Taxonomy
Akanthosuchus langstoni was named by O'Neill et al. (1981). Its type specimen is UNM NP-336 = NMMNH P-8628, a partial skeleton (partial skeleton with no skull), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is West Flank of Torrejon Wash (BUNM 77-1130), which is in a Torrejonian fluvial sandstone in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico. It is the type species of Akanthosuchus.
