Taxonomy
Venus cortinaria was named by Rogers and Rogers (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Early Pliocene; Viginia-Florida.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Dione (Chamelea) cortinaria by Conrad (1863); it was recombined as Chione cortinaria by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Chione (Chione) cortinaria by Palmer (1926), Gardner (1943).
