Cyprina tridacnoides was named by Lamarck (1818) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene; Virginia-North Carolina.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Venus tridacnoides by Conrad (1838) and Dall (1903); it was recombined as Mercenaria tridacnoides by Conrad (1863), Ward (1993); it was recombined as Venus (Mercenaria) campechiensis tridacnoides by Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Mercenaria campechiensis tridacnoides by Hendy et al. (2008).
