Cancellaria epistomifera was named by Guppy (1876) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Caribbean.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cancellaria (Bivetopsis) epistomifera by Woodring (1928); it was recombined as Cancellaria (Bivetiella) epistomifera by Wenz (1943), Jung and Petit (1990); it was recombined as Cancellaria (Cancellaria) epistomifera by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Bivetiella epistomifera by Landau et al. (2012).
