Melania costellata was named by Lamarck (1804) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; France.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grignon (Lamarck collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone/sandstone in France.
It was recombined as Diastoma costellata by Fuchs (1870); it was recombined as Diastoma costellatum by Harzhauser (2004).
