Taxonomy
Pleurotoma (Mangilia) simpsoni was named by Dall (1887) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; North Carolina-Florida.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is USNM 61040, a shell.

It was recombined as Syntomodrillia simpsoni by Woodring (1928); it was recombined as Drillia simpsoni by Gardner (1948); it was recombined as Cerodrillia (Lissodrillia) simpsoni by DuBar (1958); it was recombined as Cerodrillia simpsoni by Hendy et al. (2008).
