Eratopsis was named by Hörnes and Auinger (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Erato (Eratopsis) by Mandic et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Eratoidae by Harzhauser (2002); and to Erato by Mandic et al. (2002).
