Taxonomy
Trochus (Palaeotrochus) praecursor was named by Clarke (1885) [Trochus (Palæotrochus) præcursor Trochus (Palæotrochus) præcursor Trochus (Palæotrochus) præcursor Trochus (Palæotrochus) præcursor]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Palaeotrochus praecursor by Clarke (1904), Webster (1906); it was recombined as Trachydomia praecursor by Clarke and Swartz (1913); it was recombined as Pseudoplagiothyra praecursor by Vostokova (1961), Frýda (2000), Cook et al. (2003), Wagner (2023).
