Taxonomy
Ostrea imbricata was named by Gmelin (1791) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pecten imbricatus by Lamarck (1819); it was recombined as Pecten (Chlamys) imbricatus by Bayer (1941); it was recombined as Chlamys imbricata by Abbott (1954); it was recombined as Caribachlamys imbricata by Waller (1993) and Hendy et al. (2008).
