Liracassis was named by Moore (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l T Mi-m Sepkoski's reference number: 96]. Its type is Stramonita petrosa.

It was assigned to Cassididae by Moore (1963), Kanno (1973) and Moore (1984); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
