Browniella was named by Broom (1913). Its type is Browniella africana.

It was synonymized subjectively with Euparkeria by Ewer (1965).

It was assigned to Pseudosuchia by Broom (1913); and to Euparkeriidae by Huene (1922), Huene (1942).
