Perissoptera was named by Tate (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut T Dani Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. Its type is Rostellaria parkinsoni.

It was reranked as Anchura (Perissoptera) by Allison (1955).

It was assigned to Anchura by Allison (1955); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Aporrhaidae by Kase (1984), Vega et al. (2006); and to Arrhoginae by Kollmann (2009).
