Proclava was named by Thiele (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Cerithium (Proclava) by MacNeil (1960); it was reranked as Clava (Proclava) by Shuto (1978), Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); it was reranked as Rhinoclavis (Proclava) by Ladd (1972), Hendy (2007).

It was assigned to Cerithium by MacNeil (1960); to Clava by Shuto (1978), Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhinoclavis by Ladd (1972), Hendy (2007).
