Pterocerella was named by Meek (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u K Maes-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1074]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aporrhainae by Sohl (1960), Sohl (1964); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterocerellinae by Kollmann (2009).
