Taxonomy
Lanthanaster cruciformis was named by Branstrator (1972). Its type specimen is Holotype UCPM 6433 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lanthanaster cruciformis type locality, Cincinnati, which is in an Ordovician marine horizon in Ohio.
It was synonymized subjectively with Lanthanaster intermedius by Blake (2018).
