Linevitus distortus was named by Syssoiev (1962). Its type specimen is YaFAN 32/19, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Burithes distortus by Rozanov et al. (1969); it was recombined as Burites distortus by Khomentovsky and Karlova (1993).
