Spinigera was named by d'Orbigny (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale J Call-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1074].

It was replaced with Spiniloma by Gründel et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Aporrhaidae by Kaim (2004); and to Spinigerinae by Kollmann (2009).
