Natica gibberosa was named by Grateloup (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Early Miocene; Europe, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Natica (Ampullina) gibberosa by Oppenheim (1900); it was recombined as Ampullina gibberosa by Oppenheim (1913); it was recombined as Ampullina (Globularia) gibberosa by Vredenburg (1928); it was recombined as Globularia (Globularia) gibberosa by Karagiuleva (1964); it was recombined as Globularia gibberosa by Sacco (1891), Iqbal (1980), Harzhauser (2004) and Harzhauser et al. (2009).
