Willungia was named by Powell (1938) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Triviidae by Fehse and Kendrick (2000); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Sulcocypraeini by Fehse (2013); and to Eocypraeidae by Darragh (2017).
