Monoculus telemus was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Cosmopolitan.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Cavolina.

It was recombined as Cavolina telemus by Woodring (1928), Grant and IV and Gale (1931).
