Helix planorbis was named by Fabricius (1780) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; Eastern Atlantic.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Skeneopsis planorbis by Fretter and Graham (1978), Marquet (1997), Hendy et al. (2008).
