Taxonomy
Strombus gigas was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Strombus (Eustrombus).

It was recombined as Eustrombus gigas by Petuch (2004) and Petuch and Roberts (2007); it was recombined as Lobatus gigas by Landau et al. (2008).
