Taxonomy
Natica semilunata was named by Lea (1833) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain; COMMENTS: m. kosnik taxon no: 6924]. Its type specimen is ANSP 5529, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Lunatia semilunata by Conrad (1865); it was recombined as Natica (Lunatia) semilunata by de Gregorio (1890); it was recombined as Naticarius (Natella) semilunata by Gilbert (1963); it was recombined as Natica (Naticarius) semilunata by Palmer and Brann (1966).
